

Abstract: This paper based on the definition and characters of Audio-visual class, intends to explain the position and function of Audio-visual class from the perspective of English communicative teaching. The author points out that the Audio-visual class has the auxiliary function. Then, we conclude that: Compared with the application of audio materials which mainly use taped or records, the application of movies in English listening and speaking teaching has obvious advantages. This research has an important effect on English teaching. Especially, there is the function of inspiration on the teaching of English listening and speaking.

摘 要:本文根据影视课的定义及其特点,从英语交际教学的角度,试图论述影视课在英语专业教学中的地位和作用。作者提出影视课对教学具有辅助作用,同时认为:在英语听说教学中使用影视片进行教学,与利用以磁带、录音材料为主的组织教学相比较,具有明显的优势。本研究对英语教学,尤其是英语听说教学有重要的启示作用。

Introduction
More and more attentions have been put on video English in recent years, the application of multi-media in English teaching and learning has supplied, developed and optimized the traditional teaching and learning methods. The listening abilities, visual abilities and association abilities of the learners are all enhanced in multi-media visual and audio environment. The Audio-visual class takes listening and speaking as its primary teaching method, and makes learners to observe, apperceive, analyze, compare, deduct and conclude through multi-senses. English video teaching is very flexible and various, which is valuable in different aspects. It is able to promote the diversification of curriculum design, provides abundant language and culture experiences, and forms a situation of self participations, so that the learners can get the native and idiomatic presentations of the target languages which are not able to be got via traditional teaching methods. Moreover, via watching movies and taking part in the matching speaking and writing teaching activities, visual experiences will be further evoked, and stimulate the students to imitate and practice languages.
This paper mainly discusses the characteristics, significant applications, and functions of Audio-visual class in modern teaching. It also discusses the general curriculum design of the Audio-visual class. Bases on the related teaching theories, this paper does a comparatively comprehensive analyses on the application and development of video teaching method in English listening and speaking in college.
1 The definition of audio-visual class
Audio-visual English course, as an advanced auxiliary teaching method, has been widely applied in teaching English majors. This course combines pictures, texts, sounds and images together, in order to inspire students to use a variety of senses effectively to acquire knowledge [1]. It can also improve classroom efficiency and enrich teachers’ teaching.
This course makes use of teaching devices like slides, projectors, films, televisions, sound recordings, video tapes, and so on, so it carries a large amount of information [2]. These devices can process texts, images, sound recordings, videos and animations, and so on. Teachers can choose one or more devices according to the need of teaching contents to create illustrative, vivid, and amusing teaching situations, so as to enable students to study actively and efficiently.
Over the past decade, various English teaching videos are produced and large numbers of western movies swarms into China; consequently, learners do not have any difficulty in finding these resources that always available to aid their study, especially for English majors.
2 The characteristics of video-class
Good language environment, the use of native language and the abundant language materials can ensure the realization of the goals of English curriculums. Students can acquire various language materials in movie environment. The same time, the real context in the movie can provide an ideal environment to the students to improve their development of thinking, and encourage the students to study and create by themselves.
The movie plays an auxiliary role in creating teaching environment, leading students to the learning environment, and making easy, delight and positive class atmosphere.
2. 1 Visual and vivid
The visual effects of movie teaching make the teaching contents concrete and visual, and the visual and concrete pictures can attract the attentions of students easily. It can not only save time for teachers to explain, but also help the students to understand and remember the knowledge. For example, when teaching such compliment like a back-packer, there are many similar senses in movie, students can not only understand its meaning via performs, but also imitate it as the movie. English learning becomes much more easily.
The particular pictures and sounds of movie give students the unexpected effects, abundant and vivid appeal and real experience for the sense. It provides materials for the students to think, and the enthusiastic emotions direct the students to the best mental stat, so that they can communicate, think, learning more efficiently. Take the movie Helen for example, she was deaf and blind since her childhood, but her struggling spirits affect every student and stimulate each entreprenant student believe that there is only could but no couldn’t.
