Text play is to let students review and consolidate the learned knowledge in a relaxed way. Some students after graduation still remember the performance in English class. This method can enable students to learn in a pro-active state and foster the creative thinking ability. It is worth trying.
The experiment shows that learner’s hearing and vision get the information as much as 94% in the process of learning, but only 6% of the information is obtained through the sense of smell, clarity and sensitivity. Learners can remember 50% of the content that they see and hear and 70% of the contents mentioned in the course of these exchanges. The knowledge will be greatly strengthened through the exchange of ideas and discussion when students can see and hear in the classroom.
Multimedia teaching provides learners with a large number of realistic visual materials. It promotes the process of understanding and turns the cultural background and language scene into specific image. Learners can be fully aware of materials in a harmonious, natural, relaxed environment. As the media is visual and vivid, learners take a strong interest in learning. It deepens the impression of knowledge that makes teaching become tangible and vivid three-dimensional technology. Multimedia can transmit a large amount of information and will provide various forms of training methods. To some extent, it reduces the non-linguistic factors in the difficulty of understanding, makes learners get the fun in learning and further stimulates and protects the interest in the study.
Using visual aids like pictures can arouse students to participate in the various sensory perceptions and thereby it strengthens the role of visual teaching. The beautiful image as well as other physical things will arouse a specific kind of thirst for knowledge and enhance students’ interest in learning English. Teachers should often use this kind of teaching method. For example, if the teacher puts a bicycle in the classroom when teaching the word “bike”, students will accept the word quickly by vision. When we were in teaching practice, we always prepared pictures and students would introduce the content and we had the conclusion at last. This can increase the capacity of students’ memory and improve their language ability.
Extra-curricular activities can enrich students’ life, extend their vision, mold their character and encourage their innovation. Teachers can guide students to take regular English corner for 20 or 30 minutes to allow them to speak English as much as possible. Anybody who speaks Chinese will be punished on the performance of English-speaking programs. In English class, teachers can also carry out several meetings with a special theme in which students do English bulletin-boards, organize English corner and calligraphy exhibition, broadcast in English and watch English programs and so on[6].
Conclusion
Interest is the students’ impetus of learning. Cultivating students’ interest in learning English is the issue that teachers should take seriously. Otherwise, it is very difficult for them to raise the efficiency in English teaching and learning. As is discussed in previous parts, English teaching and learning is a complex and hard process. Without interest, without enthusiasm, it is impossible to teach and learn well. As a teacher, it is necessary for him or she to establish a harmonious teacher-student relationship, for in most cases students’ enthusiasm has something with teachers themselves. If students have a good relationship with their teachers, they will show great interest in English learning, or they will be tired in study. Meanwhile, teachers’ teaching method is also important. It is very common to see some students sleeping in class. The reasons why they lack enthusiasm in learning partly come from boring methods. So, teachers should adopt flexible teaching methods to raise students’ enthusiasm. For example, teachers should make a good introduction, such as news introduction, music introduction, giving students a good impression.
According to the teaching contents and aims, teachers can stimulate students’ enthusiasm by creating loose learning atmosphere where students accept and master the boring and difficult knowledge, such as competition, game, all of which can make teaching lively.
In a word, teachers should sum up various teaching methods to attract students’ attention and arouse the enthusiasm of studying and the desire of seeking knowledge. They should enhance the teaching of their own in English classroom to improve students’ proficiency in English, so that English teaching becomes the best state in teaching and learning. Only in this way can students develop their intelligence better and raise their English studying efficiency.转贴于 酷文网-论文下载中心 http://www.coolwen.net
