Abstract: Writing is always the weakest point in college English teaching. Although domestic scholars and English teachers have made great efforts for it, the effect is not satisfying. Many students are still poor in writing. This paper focuses on the analysis of current problems existing in college English writing teaching. It proposes that we adopt process-oriented approach to replace product-based approach, peer feedback instead of teachers’ feedback through the comparison between current teaching approaches and traditional ones.

Introduction
The year 2001 witnessed China’s success in bidding for Olympic 2008 and in entering the World Trade Organization, which filled the Chinese with not only enthusiasm, but also a feeling of urgency. English writing, as a compulsory course in colleges, becomes more and more important in communication, trade and other activities. However, the status quo of college English writing level for Chinese students is still unsatisfactory. To handle the writing class is no easy job for the teacher.
Traditionally, under the product-oriented approach, College English writing teaching has long been teacher-centered. Teachers dominate the class and ignore students’ response and enthusiasm. Recently, there is a shift from product-based approach to process-oriented approach to the teaching of writing. The latter focuses on writing as a process consisting of prewriting drafting and revising phases. “It emphasizes rhetorical principles of audience. Inspired by the process-oriented approach, peer feedback is warmly advocated by some theorists and teachers.” [1] Using different research paradigms and working with students of different levels, they have shown the strength of peer influence on learning. Since revision occupies an important position in the whole writing process, many studies have been conducted from different angles to assess the effectiveness of peer revision.
