Let the “role-play or singing” enter the class. Only that students experience is the real acquisition. The same is true to language learning. Now new materials are rich in contents, including going shopping, giving a telephone, asking for direction, etc. which are relevant to daily life, it is suitable for students to do role-play. And they can transfer the obtained knowledge into their capacity. In the design of their dialogue scenes, they can play as they think of. Because of the subjects related to the real life, students can put on performances naturally and vividly. Unconsciously, they listen and feel the language. And they experience how to utilize these expressions and lay the foundation for the correct use of English in the future. In the class teachers can teach English songs properly. For example, for beginners, it is difficult immediately remember 26 letters. However, after teaching the ABC song, the exquisite melodies soon attract students. They quickly learn the 26 letters by heart and the pronunciation is also correct, since they like to sing a song, especially pop songs. As for them, they seem to swim in the ocean of music. The songs help deepen the impression of the contents.
Teachers can take the “visual demonstration” methods [7]. At present, the teaching condition in rural secondary schools is poor. They can not afford audiovisual equipment. But, similarly, the quality of teaching in junior school can be improved by a variety of ways. One of these methods is “visual demonstration”. Teachers can bring the objects into the classroom. For instance, when teaching fruit species, teachers can bring apples, bananas and other fruit into the classroom. Taking the fruit in hand, teachers instruct to practice the pronunciation of the fruit. That will help students form an image in the mind and deepen the impression. Teachers can also resort to the way of “simple stroke” to facilitate teaching. The approach is easy to learn and the drawing technique is simple. For example, after teaching how to ask the way, they draw the guidepost as well as the outline of each building on the blackboard. By doing this way, the abstract language is transformed into the concrete one. The obscure books are clear. It’s easy for students to understand and digest.
4. 3 Improvement of the school environment for students
The school should make clear the goal of teaching at first. To learn a language is to train students’ ability to unitize it. Therefore, based on the long- term interests of the students, the school should actively create environment to promote the learning spoken English.
(1) Increasing the investment in education. Both the country and local government should increase investment in education to improve rural teaching facilities. As a result, students are able to enjoy the fun of learning and favorable external conditions without any interference. The multimedia, language lab and other modern equipment can make up for deficiencies of the traditional teaching. It provides a communication environment for students to practice English. In urban area, some secondary schools have had such advantages. Through making full use of the facilities, teachers improve the teaching methods and enhance the teaching efficiency. Therefore, we should increase investment in education and improve teaching conditions in rural areas so that teachers and students can teach and learn in a comfortable environment. In some schools, foreign teachers can be employed, for not only to enable students to experience the exchange with foreigners, but also understand English and American culture better. At the same time, as the condition is improved, more graduates will join in the team of teaching in rural areas.
(2) Holding the oral test regularly. Examination is a means of assessment. Oral English tests can be applied to the teaching. Through holding oral English test at each semester, teachers can not only learn the students’ proficiency in spoken English, but also make students aware of the existing problems and difficulties in learning English and resolve it in time. To certain extent, oral English test will press students to learn spoken English. But topics of test should be designed in accordance with the actual level of students with a variety of forms and methods.
(3) Organizing oral English contest regularly and setting up English corner. Schools should create conditions for students to show themselves. Every student can have the chance to take part in the contest. The titles and forms are various. The students can expresses them as they hope. In English corner, English fans gather together to exercise oral English. They can share the knowledge and emotion with each other. Therefore, these are helpful to improve their oral English.
(4) Broadcasting English songs or poems and so on at leisure to help to build English only environment. The beautiful voice, beautifully reading and flow melody will attract students and inspire students’ desire to speak English.
