(2) Lack of methods of learning English. Although it has been several years since junior high pupils learn English, they don’t strengthen practicing spoken English in the daily life. However, the methods the students form depend on the exploring in the learning process. The valid method should be individual. At present, as for middle-school students, the task of school assignment is arduous, and the spare time is few. Therefore, the phenomenon of plagiarism presents. They can’t spare time to practice spoken English, not mentioning the attempt to explore t methods to learn spoken English. Even if they have, the effect is not obvious.
4 Some suggestions to improve spoken English teaching
Teachers are the ones who teach knowledge and are the subjects of imitating. Especially in rural area, that students learn English depends on their teachers since students believe that their teachers are always good. Therefore, teachers play an important role in teaching spoken English. In the new era, teachers should also keep up with the pace of the times, not only have high professional knowledge, but also a clear responsibility, improve their own quality and change teaching concepts.
4. 1 Urgent need of qualified English teachers
Understanding the responsibility of a teacher is the basic requirement of teaching. They should replace the students for them and consider students' need. They should train students to be talent according to the market demand. The concrete ways are just as following.
(1) To be a responsible teacher, they should do well in the following aspects. First, they should prepare lessons carefully. As for students, evidence of a plan shows them that the teacher has devoted time to thinking about the class. As for the teachers, in the classroom, a plan helps to remind them what they intended to do. Therefore, planning a lesson is necessary. And a good lesson needs to contain a judicious blend of coherence and variety [3]. A good plan needs to reflect this. The ideal compromise is to plan a lesson that allows students to do different things. At the same time when presenting the lessons, teachers should be flexible and respond creatively to what happens unexpectedly in the classroom. Sometimes, the plan has to be given up. Anyhow, teachers should have thought ahead, have a destination which they want their students to reach and know how they are going on to get there. Second, they should know their students. Broadly, students level can be divided into three sorts, say beginner, intermediate and advanced. These three kinds of students have different characters. As for beginners, language learning could be learnt easily and simply. Thus they need to be exposed to fairly simple language they can understand. Intermediate students have already achieved a lot. Teachers show them what they still need to learn without discourage and help them to set clear goals for themselves. Advanced students already know a lot of English, teachers just help them to use language with more subtle. The design of the activities or during the group discussion, teachers should consider the level their study, the content of material, the purpose of their study and the background of the students.
(2) The ways of enhancing the quality of English teachers. Of course, a qualified teacher is also good in personality. They have an affinity with students they’re teaching. In order to give interesting classes, they can make fun of the students. And the teacher should be characterized by honesty, hard-working, friendliness and considerateness. At the same time, language teachers’ competence includes “language competence”, since the whole point of teaching a language is to develop the learner’s mastery of language. Being a qualified teacher, they should have high professional competence. However, in rural area, the background of education for the teachers is low. In order to improve their competence, the teachers themselves should be aware of upgrading their knowledge and ready to change and be not willing to be left behind in spare time, they can learn to master the professional knowledge and skills. Therefore, they need to transform the traditional teaching concept. As for teaching a foreign language, it is necessary to change of teaching methods [4]. Traditional teaching methods are no longer fit for the development of the times. English teachers should adopt new teaching methods and the guarding principles going as the following four points: a. Let students directly involve in learning activities in the class with the time up to its maximum. b. Allow students to participate in learning in the class with the number up to maximizing coverage. c. Enable students to achieve practice and authenticity of practice is up to the maximum. d. Let students have mutually learning opportunities, which is up to the maximum [5]. In other word, teachers should hold the position that their role are to encourage students speaking English rather than dictators of the class. To adhere to teaching concepts, taking students as the main body and respecting students’ main spirit, they should change the traditional teacher-entered teaching model thoroughly and maintain the four guiding principles.
