(1) In the party, some persons are talking about something.
A: Hey, guy. Do you like a cup of cocktail?
B: Ok, a little. Thank you.
C: Hello, ghost, I have not seen you for a long time. Where did you go?
B: London. Well, your old Smith is Ok, isn’t him?
C: Yes, he misses you very much. He is asking me when you will go and see him.
B: If it is convenient for you now, let’s go.
   C: Ok. Let’s go.
In this conversation, the speakers are intimate friends. They do not want to use tied calls to communicate with each other. Sometimes, the casual designations can shorten the distance between speakers. And the intimate relations can be also completely shown in front of other people.
Of course, there are other cases in our daily life. Some people use the disrespectful designations to sneer at others, such as the ones to different women. To the old women, some persons like to call them old hens. And if the women are not outstanding, they will be called the plain Janes. And if the women are considered to be the disasters for men, they will be called jailbaits. Therefore, people will choose the appropriate designations to call others for the ideal effect in the conversation.

Conclusion
“Since 1980s, the foreign pragmatic research has generally entered the flourishing period. New theories occur commonly. And academic works emerge in an endless stream. However, it is worth to note that all pragmatic works nearly inquire into deixis. Even pragmatics itself is once narrowly regarded as the research on deixis.”[10] The paper comparatively and comprehensively generalizes and discusses deixis’s application and functions in communication from its deictic phenomenon, usage, classification and function to improve people’s consciousness of properly using deixis in communication to attain the best communicative effect. From it, we can see that deixis is a kind of common linguistic phenomenon. It touches upon the relation between language and environment. And this kind of relation is reflected on the linguistic structure through vocabulary and grammar. Secondly, people need an explicit point of reference as the base for the usage and comprehension of deixis. In the linguistic communication, this point of reference focuses on the speaker. The person in the center of the communication is that person who is speaking. The time which the speaker is talking to others is the center time. The place where the speaker is speaking is the center place. The opposite status between the speaker and other participants also focuses on the speaker’s status. Therefore, the series of deixis in languages is organized through speakers, namely self-center. Of course, the comprehension of deixis in conversation absolutely depends on context for that the conversation itself is a shifting process. In this process, context follows the changes of conversation, and communicative participants also continue producing new conversations. In these conversations, there must be a relation between the former utterance and what has been said just now; the former relation is reflected through the latter relation. So, it is important for people to master these. As long as with the ability to encode the context in conversation, people can exactly know the meanings of deixis in conversation. And it also paves the way for the continuing research on deixis’s functions in conversation. Because there is not enough time to prepare the paper this time, I do not clearly and accurately sum up the functions of deixis in conversation. Thus, the posterity can make great efforts at this aspect.
