hard  
offer ~ 
large  

    (2) In American English, t and d both have a very light “voiced” pronunciation between vowels; and in British English, t remains “unvoiced” between vowels. Example:
Words GA GB
writer [~ [
pretty [′ [′ 
water [′~ [′
glitter [′~ [′
(3) Before –u and –ew, British people pronounce n-, d- and t- like ny-, dy-, and ty- ( ). Americans pronounce them as they are written. Example:
Words GA GB
tune  
due  
dew  
nude  
duke  
(4) British people pronounce wh- as  in some words where American generally pronounces it as . Example:
Words GA GB
which  
what  
why  
wheat  
2. 2 Idiom
To caryy out a effective conversation, we should have a basic knowledge of the idiom differences between American english and British english. Since they have different expression in number and the way of statement.
2. 2. 1 Number
When reading numbers in a sequence, such as a telephone or serial number, British people will usually use the terms double or triple/treble followed by the repeated number.  Hence, 007 is double oh seven. Exceptions are the emergency telephone number 999, which is always nine nine nine. In the US, 911 (the US emergency telephone number) is usually read nine one one, while 9/11 (in reference to the September 11, 2001 attacks) is usually read nine eleven.
When saying or writing out numbers, the British will typically insert an “and” before the tens and units, as in one hundred and sixty-two and two thousand and three. In America, it is considered correct to drop the and, as in two thousand three; however, this is rarely heard in everyday speech, two thousand and three being much more common.

2. 2. 2 Statement
American and britain also have different statements when they have a call. If the person is the Office of the Secretary or operators such as the staff, who is not people the other side is looking for, we often tell him “please wait" ,the British English expression is “hold the line, please”.While American commonly say: “hold on, please.” If asking the operator to transfer to the manager, the British English expression is “Could you connect me with the manager?” American English is usually used preposition "to" replace the sentence of the preposition "with".
2. 3 Tone
Despite pronunciation, the tone of these two different language is also different. There is an unfamiliar cadence in britains’ voice. Their tone is sonorous and quite somewhat similar to French. And British have ridiculed the Americans unable to speak, loose and without rhythm.
Americans speak relatively stable low. The potential sentence is usually a demotion, and some slow. Americans love laughing at the British tone of mild hysteria, just sound like a woman tone.

3  Differences between American and British business English in written channel
The written channel is related to reading and writing. It refers to the use of such paper-basd media as letters, memos, report, e-mails. Most written channel media tend to be formal. So in this aspect, american english and british has more differnce. Since British people commonly use formal expression than American.转贴于 酷文网-论文下载中心 http://www.coolwen.net
