C The application of modern methods of cooperative learning approach
① Group investigation
Students will involve in this method in this preparation part. As each group has an individual task which needs investigation or discussion, each member of every group has to be work individually at first. The leader of each group specifies every task and makes a time to have a discussion. In this way each student has the opportunity to learn language and to find something different. They will find their shortcomings when under discussion, which contributes their better understanding of the English language.
② Learning together
After the first period, they have to learn together. Everyone will have to give a lecture about his topic, which forces him to open his mouth, to organize his language appropriately which contains vocabulary, grammar and his view. For a while, this will in turn increase his confidence to speak in public. When discuss, they have to use sentences to exchange mutual knowledge, to ask and to answer questions accordingly. For example, they may use “Excuse me, can you tell me the meaning of...?” “What do you think of…?” “Well, I think…” Starting with such common sentences, the students will find speaking English not as difficult as it seems to be. Gradually, their enthusiasm propels them to become active to use more advanced expressions.
3. 3 In listening
Listening, as a major component in language, has been a channel for information exchange. But it remains an obstacle in English learning. Here is an example of the students majoring in food science technology, showing how to start cooperative learning in listening.
To begin with, the teacher concludes the difficulties of listening for the learners, such as trouble in catching the actual sounds of a foreign language, understanding every word, new words, etc. The teacher will exert vital efforts to solve these problems by letting all the students work cooperatively. Take the American film Forrest Gump for example, which has been cut a part for listening material.转贴于 酷文网-论文下载中心 http://www.coolwen.net
