应试教育在高中英语教学中的现状研究

Abstract: Examination-oriented education is an education system serving examinations, which has the characteristics such as the utilitarian purpose of education, the uniformity of the teaching content, the spoon-feeding way of teaching, and the speculation. Examination-oriented education prevails in all various aspects in English teaching in senior middle school, including listening, speaking, reading and writing. Nowadays, in china, there exists "deaf and dumb English” among senior middle school students. This paper introduces the current situation of examination-oriented education in English teaching in senior middle school, then point outs the present existing problems, and analyze the reasons for these problems. In the end, the author gives her own solutions to improve the current situation of examination-oriented education in English teaching in senior middle school, which we should keep positive attitude to improve it rather than solely criticize it.

摘 要:应试教育是一种把教育目的归结为“为考试服务”的教育制度,它具有教育目的的功利性、教学内容的单一性、教学方式的填鸭式和投机性等特点。应试教育存在于高中英语教学的听说读写各个方面,其中最突出的表现就是高中学生们现存的“哑巴英语”。本文介绍了应试教育在高中英语的现状,指出了其中存在的问题和危害,分析了其产生的原因,最后结合时代特征提出应该用积极的态度去面对和改进它,而不是全盘否定和批判。

Introduction
Over many years, the examination-oriented education is in the dominant position in English teaching in senior middle school in order to pursue admissions rates. Students, teachers and parents focus on the college entrance examination to get a good result. In teaching mode, teachers always instill knowledge and carry out many exam papers as teaching methods, for students, the learning objectives and tasks are to deal with college entrance examination, so, in the process of teaching, examination-oriented training and skills is the most important in both teaching content and methods.[1] However, under this examination-oriented educational system, we ignore to cultivate the sense of self-learning, habits and creativity of students. Because of the system, the majority of students have a very strong psychological dependence on teachers. They have no motivation and have passive attitude to learn. They ignore the improvement of English language skills and the objective rule and requirements. Thus they can not really master English.


This thesis is divided into five parts: The first part is introduction. It mainly gives a general introduction to examination-oriented education. The second part gives its definition and features, and it describes the current situation of examination-oriented education in English teaching in senior middle school, which states the learning in classrooms and method and content in English teaching, and then points out the existing problems and harm to learners which has caused in English teaching. The third part analyzes the reasons for these problems. It argues the history and present conditions of examination-oriented education, and gives the reasons for necessity of examination. The fourth part consists of two sections. It suggests we should take positive attitude to examination-oriented education. On the other hand, it gives strategy and solutions to improve the current situation of examination-oriented education in English teaching in senior middle school. The fifth chapter is conclusion. It emphasizes the intention of English teaching in senior middle school is to develop students in an all-round way and focus on cultivating students' creativity and practical ability and stimulate the students’passion and interest of English study, while gives them a strongly dynamic power of learning anything they are interested in.

In one word, Examination is a way to select talent and test students’ knowledge and ability. College entrance examination still exists, we should keep positive attitude to improve it rather than criticize it. We can absorb the valuable points to develop students in an all-round way and focus on cultivating students' creativity and ability. English teaching goal is to improve students’ English skill in practice, cultivate students’ spirit of practice and innovation, and lay a good foundation for development of students. [2]
