Conclusion
From the analysis above in this paper, the readers get the fact that the use of symbolism runs through the whole process of Golding’s human exploration in Lord of Flies. In this book, any things, figures, scenery and even the words and deeds of the children are implying and conveying something to readers. It is just through the use of symbols, Golding exposes the fact that no one social drawbacks is not caused by evil of human nature. Actually, the symbolism here is not only used as the rhetoric in traditional novel creation, but a characteristic of modern literature which can reflect some futures of modern civilization. By the use of full- penetration symbol, the author succeeds to hide the profound theme meaning in the seemingly dull but very interesting story of the children. Golding is unwilling to impose the pessimistic view of human darkness on the readers. Instead, he hopes people find the evil in human soul and society by themselves by using symbol. Through the analysis of human nature from the angel of symbolism, the readers may realize more clearly that though Golding reveals the extreme evil of human being in extreme bad environment, actually, he is using his pen to set up a mirror for mankind, through which people can peek their evil part hides under the cover of civilization. As a humanist, he sincerely hopes people will ultimately succeed to get free from inherent evil, he loves people. And human being should also make self-examination: the defects in our nature lead us to make mistakes, but we still have reason and love in our nature; therefore, as long as we stick to reason to self-examine ourselves and cherish love to take care of the world, we can rectify our mistakes, save ourselves from the fall and advance into a more advanced civilization.
