论毛泽东诗词翻译中意象的传达

Abstract: Mao Tse-tung’s poetry is the modern model of the forms of Chinese classical poetry. So the deep image in his poetry is the key to explain and comprehend his poetry. This article introduces the characters of images in his poetry, especially the cultural image, and construction of images in his poetry. While his poetry is rendered into English one, the translation of its images can be based on principles of literal translation, shift translation, amplification and omission and so on, according to faithfulness，artistry and creativeness. So that they can convey the original meaning of Mao Tse-tung’s poetry and deliver classical and imaginary beauty of ancient Chinese poetry to English readers.

摘 要：毛泽东诗词作为我国古典诗词形式的现代典范，其中深含的意象是解读毛泽东诗词的重要手段。本文介绍了毛泽东意象的特点，特别是文化意象，和毛泽东意象的营造。由此重点论述了毛泽东诗词意象的翻译方法，即直译法，增译法，减译法和转译法，以 “忠实，艺术，创造”为翻译标准进行翻译，以期据此准确表达毛泽东诗词中的原义，将中国诗词的古典美和意境美传达给英语世界读者。

Introduction
China is a country of pomes, verses, poetry, and songs, they come down from generation to generation. There are a lot of brilliant and famous poets in every dynasty in our history, many of them are politicians. As a cultural giant crossing the old and new century, Mao Tse-tung has not only grasped the essence of Chinese traditional culture, but also has profound and special opinion on Western modern thought. Owing to this, he has become the swan of modern China. His poetry has the character of classical style, extensive material and plentiful content, which is appreciated by people all over the world, especially for his grand style and revolutionary romantic technique. So the translation of his poetry is an important component of culture communication between China and Western countries. With an eye for creative imagery and meaningful realm, Mao Tse-tung’s poetry is of special aesthetic value with rich connotations and unique flavor. So it is important to understand the deep image of his poetry, which is the key to explain and comprehend his poetry. Scholars both at home and abroad make many studies on Mao Tse-tung’s poetry and translation, relating to one or several aspects of styles, contents, intercultural communication, cultural comparison between China and Western countries, methods of translation and so on. Foreign research to Mao Tse-tung’s poetry began late and there are fewer scholars. Such as C．EdwinVaughan.& Chang Chunhou Mao Tse-tung as Poet and Revolutionary Leader. In this book, they translated about eighty Mao Tse-tung’s poems. So far as I know, it is the best and detailed book that collects Mao Tse-tung’s poems in America. Jerome Ch’ên.& Michael Bullock, Mao and the Chinese Revolution: withThirty-Seven Poems by Mao Tse-tung. In this book, they keep the original style of Mao Tse-tung’s poetry with brief and emotional verses. [1] But they just study a few parts of contents and forms of Mao Tse-tung’s poetry and achieved more or less.
In mainland of China, there are more scholars making studies on Mao Tse-tung’s poetry: such as Xu Yuanzhong, SelectedPoems of Mao Tse-tung (Chinese—English), it consists of short preface written by Mao Anqing and Shao Hua, translator’s preface and fifty short poems. They are all in Chinese—English forms. Besides, Xu Yuanzhong adds English notes to all English poems. Zhang Zhizhong, Comparison and study of English versions, it introduces the general situation of English versions and translation of Mao Tse-tung’s poetry, and then investigates methods of translation to these twelve English versions. Zhang Chunjiang, Rhetoric translation, it points out the use of rhetoric can make language more vivid and give deep impression to readers. Accordingly, we should transmit rhetoric in the original poems successfully in order to strike the balance of form and content. But there is few studies involving the image of Mao Tse-tung’s poetry which is a crucial problem in Chinese and Western culture needed to be solved. So this article attaches much importance to explain and comprehend images of his poetry, construction of images, methods and standards of images translation. The author writes this paper for the purpose of discovering and discussing the translation of images of Mao Tse-tung’s poetry and seeking for more proper, more perfect and more scientific methods of translation to combine Chinese classical beauty with Western modern culture and extend the influence of Mao Tse-tung’s poetry. Furthermore, the author hopes to reduce the distance between Chinese and Western culture. Therefore readers in Western world can enjoy themselves by understanding Mao Tse-tung’s poetry.
