近现代中国和中国研究中的文化双重性

　　最后，我希望强调的是，文化双重性的历史表明，两种文化的共同在场不会象民族国家的历史以及西方中心的现代主义或后现代的相对主义建构那样，必然地导致帝国主义与民族国家主义或者支配与从属之间非此即彼的选择。相反，在人们日常生活经验层面上，文化交流会迅速地形成调和——没有侵犯和支配，也没有欺骗和压迫。在近现代中国，在美国的中国研究中，文化双重性和语言双重性以一种集中的方式向我们展示了两种文化是怎样共存、混合乃至融合成为某种新事物的。人们可以从中得到不同文化间的相互理解和超国界视野的启示。
